The three colors of the Italian flag-green, white and red remind me of one of my favorite Italian dishes, ‘il caprese’, which consists of slices of mozzarella (buffalo mozzarella or mozzarella packaged in water are best), fresh garden tomatoes, and basil leaves.
You can arrange these three simple and flavorful ingredients on your platter in any way that you want-I usually alternate the mozzarella slices with the tomatoes and then cut the basil into tiny pieces and sprinkle atop. I drizzle olive oil over everything and then finish with a bit of salt. Some people also will add a little balsamic vinegar and/or pepper. Ecco un piatto perfetto per mangiare in estate. Tutto fresco e delizioso! It’s the perfect summer dish, you can easily bring to your next party or serve at home. It can be eaten atop fresh bread as well which makes it even more delicious, or even made into a grilled sandwich. Gnam gnam, yum yum, buon appetito!
